Creating Fur

Please keep in mind, this tutorial is not to teach anyone how to draw. It is simply a tutorial on the workflow of the creative process.

This tutorial will be done on a ball.. the same process can be done on any organic model. Just follow the lay of the geometry.

First, lets create a circle.

Now lets add some shading to lay the foundation for our fur highlights.

Next, take your smudge tool ( or the liquefy filter if you so choose) and STARTING AT THE BOTTOM work your way up. All the while following the form of the geometry.

At this point, you can alter the brush you are using in your smudge tool to get a more detailed look. Also, in this step you can start using the dodge and burn tools to emphasize the strands of the fur.

Last step.. just add your little details.

This tutorial went pretty quick. I think it only took me about five minutes to make this fur ball from start to finish. Obviously, you can take as much or as little time as you need to get the final look that you desire.

I hope you liked it.
